A Jam-Packed Weekend with My Son

This past weekend my wife went down to PA to go to her friends wedding. My son just turned two and has extreme food allergies. We thought it would be a lot to bring him down, so we decided I would stay home all weekend with him. For those of you who don’t have kids, this may not sound like a big deal, but believe me, it is.

She left first thing in the morning on Friday and came home close to midnight last night – so it was a full three days of non-stop, heart pumping action! I tell you, it makes me appreciate my wife so much more staying home and taking care of our son everyday.

Here’s a little secret: I was half-dreading this weekend. Not because I don’t love my son–I love him more than anything, but one day with him can be very tiring, let alone three days! I was prepared for the worst temper tantrums, the bloodiest injuries, and the unfathomable No-you-can’t-color-on-the-wall cleanups. Luckily, none of those situations occurred. In fact, we had a great time.

We got him a bike for his birthday, and I took him outside to learn how to ride it. Among that, we also ran around the yard with his giant red ball, and we went for some walks. He attacked a rock with a stick for a solid half-hour one afternoon. A couple of nights, I grilled us up some dinner, and he came out on the deck to help out. Last night we cuddled up and watched a movie. Needless to say, we did a lot of stuff.

I am tired and sore today from all the running and wrestling, and am very happy that my wife is home now!
