Latest Project: Christian urls

I recently went live with my new side project, Christian urls. This website, like all the other single-page aggregators out there, pays homage to popurls. Though unlike popurls, Christian urls focuses on Christian and family-friendly content. This is one of those projects that will continue to develop over time with more sources and features.

I started this project because I’ve always had a lot of trouble locating reliable Christian/Family-centered news resources, as well as other Christian media. I thought it would be nice to have a centralized location that rebroadcasts all of this information, as well as introduce others to some not-so-well-known news outlets.

Some fun facts about this project
This site uses the Fam Fam Fam Silk icon set. The blog runs on TextPattern, which is kind of obvious if you look at it now. It will be getting restyled at some point in time.

Not all the sources offer RSS feeds for parsing, in which case I use the PHP cURL method to open the source webpage, and restructur the data to be formated as unordered lists. The RSS feeds are parsed using the PHP SimpleXML method.

Some plans for the future
Whether I will get to these or not, I don’t know, but here are my plans: Speed up the page load time, Reformat styles to work properly in IE6, Pretty-up the blog, Add new sources, including Music reviews, TV show reviews, and Prominent blogs, video blogs, and podcasts in the Christian blogosphere.
